Training Retreat Weekend held - June 15-16

The JEMS South America Department hosted its pre-summer training retreat at JEMS headquarters over the weekend. It was a time of prayerful preparation, worship, culture, language and ministry training. Although we have in the past offered almost seventy hours of training, we have scaled down the number of hours due to the shorter summer terms.

We are grateful for past JEMS volunteers who came out to offer their insights and practical suggestions to the new 2012 team. Some of the alumni who were able to participate are pictured below:

Although the Dallas contingent of the JEMS team was unable to attend the weekend retreat at the JEMS office, we have been pleased to use Skype technology to provide face-to-face training through the computer screen.

I am praying that our on-site training session was a blessing and benefit to our workers as they had opportunity to learn from the training staff, to interact with each other, to plan and to pray.

Please pray for the teams as they will depart as early as next Friday, June 29th, with Pastor John. Other teams will follow on July 27 and on August 31.

The June 29th departure team:

Thank you so much for your prayers on our behalf, for your words of encouragement and for your financial support. Your partnership makes this ministry possible.

Blessings to you! I look forward to sharing more with you after I return from South America on September 4th!

Pr John

Pastor John's Ministry Schedule
Please remember PJ as he travels extensively this summer (winter in South America) to establish new contacts and to firm up long time relationships.

His travel will include a first time visit to the Japanese community in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he has meetings scheduled with the president of the Centro Nikkei Argentino. Through that contact it is hoped that other networking relationships can be cultivated.

PJ will make two visits to Paraguay: one to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Amambay Free Methodist Church where JEMS has sent workers and teams over five different years. Also in Paraguay, PJ will visit with Pastor Koki and Mari Nowada, who are serving in Nikkei Free Methodist Church in the capital city of Asunción.

A focused ministry trip will occur in the second half of August as PJ travels through the state of São Paulo where the majority of Nikkei churches are found. He will visit five congregations and pastors in São Paulo state as well as the Nikkei church in the city of Campo Grande, one state over.

Please keep all of PJ's travels by bus, car, air - in your prayers. Thank you!

Pastor John's June prayer letter is online.

Hi Everyone!

I'm slowly trying to transition my prayer letter online. It's been a learning experience, but a good one. I'm hoping that you are encouraged by the many excited faces of those who will be volunteering their time and abilities in South America this summer.

If you missed my print prayer letter, you can catch up here.
